Major tragedy averted at railway gate

KATHUA, May 16: A major tragedy was averted at the Railway Gate Dhabwal near, here this evening and five inmates of a maruti car which was on its way from Kathua to Ghati had a narrow escape as the car had reached the unmanned railway gate at Dhabwal just when the Jammu Mail which was on its way to Delhi passed via the track.
According to reports reaching here, the gate was unmanned and the gateman on duty had abandoned it. The maruti car driver without noticing the train which was coming towards Delhi reached on the railway track. Had the driver of the car not applied the brake and stopped the vehicle it would have been completely smashed by the train and a major tragedy would have taken place. However the front side of the car suffered a minor damage as it was hit by the train.
Soon after the accident the Sector officers of the Railway reached the spot and recommended action against the gate man.
