JAMMU, Nov 24: Timely and swift action by Fire and Emergency Services Department averted a major tragedy in Residency Road area of Jammu, where a fire broke out today in a three-storey building.
Fire and Emergency Services Station City received a call today at 3:40 AM and the caller revealed that a three-storey commercial building at Veer Marg on Residency Road has caught fire. Wasting no time, fire fighters came in action and reached the spot with three fire tenders within no time.
In the operation which lasted for about one and a half hour, the fire fighters managed to douse the flames completely but there was marginal damage to the building and articles present in it but a major tragedy was averted and there was no report of any loss of life in the fire.
“The 2nd and 3rd storeys of the building were being used as workshop/store of Modern Opticals. The property worth Rs 80 lakh was present in the building out of which property of Rs 5 lakh was partially damaged in the fire while rest was saved by the timely response of the fire fighters”, a spokesperson of Department of F&E Services said.
The spokesperson said that the property which gutted partially in the fire includes optical instruments, auto-cutter & fitting machine, optical lenses, frames, ceiling fans, steel racks, windows/window panes, doors and electric fitting. He said prima facie it appears that the fire occurred due to electric short-circuit.
The whole operation was conducted by a team of fire fighters led by Incharge, City Station, Vijay Lunar along with Incharge, Gandhi Nagar Station, Ramesh Pandita, under the supervision of Deputy Director, Command, Jammu, RC Raina, who personally reached the spot.
