JAMMU, Sept 1: While welcoming the Union Government decision to send an All Party Parliamentary delegation to J&K to hold interaction with the people, the CPI (M) senior leader and MLA Kulgam Mohammed Yousf Tarigami said that the initiative will be fruitful if Hurriyat Conference is also invited for dialogue.
Talking to reporters here, this afternoon, the CPI (M) leader expressed the hope that the delegation may understand the gravity of the situation and the visit will not be only cosmetic but meaningful this time.
Tarigami regretted that the previous visits of Parliamentary delegations, interlocutors and other Central Government teams did not prove fruitful as the reports submitted by them to settle the issue are hanging in balance.
The visit will only prove meaningful when all stakeholders including mainstream and separatist leadership will be invited for talks, he said, adding the State Government should facilitate such talks.
Besides, the separatists the civil society in Kashmir, Bar Association, traders and senior journalists should also be invited for dialogue so that the ways and means could be found to bring Kashmir out of present crisis.
Opposing any preconditions to the dialogue, Tarigami said “don’t make it conditional as you have to address the people of Kashmir,. The Kashmir had created a history in 1947 when whole of the Sub Continent was bleeding as no incident took place there”, he added.
He said Kashmiris are not to blamed for the same but these are the leaders from ruling class who failed to come to the expectations of the people.
While strongly favouring that Hurriyat be brought to the negotiation table, Tarigami said there is no fun of talking with main stream leaders as they are always ready for talks but the Government should talk to the managers of present crisis and those who are not the part of mainstream parties.
Tarigami said there is no harm in holding talks with Hurriyat as during the time of Atal Behari Vajpayee’s Government interaction was held with Hizbul Mujahideen and when then Home Minster and Deputy Prime Minster, L K Advani was asked why the Government held talks with them he replied that “we have talked to our own children”.
“Though we have ideological differences with BJP but no one can doubt the patriotism of Advani”, he added.
