Make every student computer literate: Malik

SRINAGAR, Oct 20: Minister for Higher Education, Labour and Employment, Abdul Gani Malik asked the teaching fraternity to make every student computer literate.
The Minister was addressing the Annual Day function of Government College for Women, Nawakadal here today.
Advisor to Chief Minister, Mubarak Gul and Principal of College Prof Tasleem Peer were present on the occasion.
Mr Malik said, education is investment in growth and development of a society thus each one of us must contribute a bit in making every soul a literate in real sense, both morally and academically.
Highlighting the role of colleges in spreading the knowledge among masses particularly, S.P. College, Amar Singh College, Government Women College, M.A. Road and Government Women College Nawakadal of Srinagar city, the Minister said that the facilities in these colleges are doing yeoman’s services in providing quality education to the students, however, there is dire need to bring change in present educational system to avoid multiplication of number of unemployed youth.
Addressing the function Gul said that in present days girls outshine boys and girls always have an edge on boys in all spheres of life including education. He said that Nawakadal has a roll of more than 3000 students and the capacity is insufficient for accommodating the students. He said that the Government has identified land for construction of college complex at Saidapora and the work on the project will be taken up shortly so that the Nawakadal Women College would be provided more accommodation facilities for the students.
Earlier, Principal of the College, Prof. Tasleem Peer presented welcome address and gave resume of the college activities during the last financial year.
The dignitaries released newsletter of the college “A Khatoon” on the occasion. The students of the college presented mesmerising cultural bonanza on the occasion, which bagged great applause from the audience.
Meritorious students were awarded with trophies and certificates. The programme was anchored by Dr. Prof. Masooda Khan.
The function among others was attended by Principal, Government Women College, M.A. Road, Principal Islamia College Prof. Tariq Kawoosa, Principal Government Degree College, Prof. G.M. Tibet Vaqal, Associate Prof. Central University, Kashmir, Prof. Fayaz Ahmed Nika.
Later, the Minister visited Government Degree College Beerwah and inspected its functioning.
