Make foolproof arrangements for VVIPs’ Kathua visit: DIG to territorial officers

KATHUA, Apr 8: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Dr Sunil Gupta, has instructed the territorial officers in Kathua to fortify arrangements for the anticipated visits of VVIPs to the town in view of the Lok Sabha elections.
Chairing the monthly crime review meeting at the District Police Line (DPL) Kathua today, Dr Gupta underscored the importance of meticulous planning to ensure the safety of dignitaries during the election campaign.
Attended by SSP Kathua, Additional SP Kathua, DySP DAR Kathua, as well as all SDPOs and SHOs of the District, the meeting delved into various aspects of security and law enforcement.
SSP Kathua, Shivdeep Singh, provided a comprehensive overview of the current crime and law and order scenario in the district.
DIG Dr Sunil Gupta emphasized the urgency of expediting the resolution of pending cases, particularly focusing on inquest proceedings and cracking down on drug peddlers and other disruptive elements.
He urged officers to adopt a mission-oriented approach in combating the drug menace, calling for concerted efforts to dismantle illicit drug networks.
Furthermore, Dr Gupta highlighted the necessity of enhanced surveillance measures, including bolstering area domination, strengthening checkpoints, and implementing CCTV surveillance.
He stressed the importance of vigilance to thwart the activities of anti-national elements and ensure a peaceful environment amidst the electoral process.
The DIG also reviewed the security arrangements for forthcoming VVIP visits, issuing necessary guidelines to ensure foolproof arrangements.
Additionally, he assessed the preparedness for the Lok Sabha elections, encompassing all facets of security and logistical planning.
As part of efforts to augment surveillance capabilities, attendees were urged to increase the installation of CCTV cameras, with a focus on proper record-keeping to monitor criminal activities effectively.
Dr Gupta also announced plans to introduce a ranking system for police stations, incentivizing top-performing stations while providing guidance for improvement to those lagging behind.
The meeting concluded with directives aimed at implementing discussed strategies effectively, including expediting case resolutions, controlling the drug trade, curbing vehicle theft and burglaries, and maintaining a peaceful atmosphere in the district.
