Make Kashmiri compulsory subject in 9th, 10th classes: CPI(M)

SRINAGAR, Oct 9:
The Communist Party of India (M) today demanded that Kashmiri be made compulsory subject in the 9th and 10th standards in school in Jammu and Kashmir.
Immediately after the Question Hour was over in the Legislative Assembly, lone CPI(M) member Mohammad Yousuf Targami raised the issue of introducing Kashmiri as a compulsory subject in the 9th and 10th classes.
He said he had raised this issue in the previous session of the House also when then Minister for Education had assured that this will be taken up on priority and necessary steps will be taken in this regard.
“Unfortunately this categorical assurance has not been implemented so far, resulting in uncertainty among the scholars, students and other sections of the society who feel deeply concerned about the future of the Kashmiri language,” he added.
Mr Targami urged upon the Government to act and take immediate measures to make Kashmiri a compulsory subject in 9th and 10th classes keeping in view the aspirations of the local community. (UNI)
