Make Tawi pollution free

Sir,
The river Tawi starts its flow with the melting of water from the Kali-Kund Glacier. The total catchment of water is more than one hundred square kilometer. The river Tawi travels a distance of 80 Km to reach the Jammu region. It is the main river which flows through the Jammu city. The people of the Jammu city has great  cultural and religious attachments with the Holy river Tawi.
Water of the Jammu Tawi is the main source of drinking water particularly, for the Jammu region. Several water pumps and stations for purification have been  installed to supply water to the tubewells and further supplied to the houses particularly in Gujjar Nagar and other adjacent areas i.e Bakshi Nagar, Rehari, Panjthirthi and University Campus. But the people of Jammu are not aware about the polluted water of Tawi river which they consume everyday.
Before 1947, when the population of Jammu city was not more than 35,000, the quantum of the waste water was much less than the rainfall, but with the population explosion, the amount of water waste has increased tremendously. Moreover, the people of Jammu now using bucket type of latrines and hand flushes, the waste water of which discharges directly into the drains and finally in the river Tawi. The river Tawi is getting highly polluted and its pollution level has reached at alarming proportions. The Tawi river is now being used as a big sewerage and its level has very much reduced. Besides polluting the  river, the waste material is rising the level of river  bed exposing localities along the banks to floods.
The Industrial discharge, chemicals, polythene bags affects the water of Tawi river. This has made water that was used for drinking since centuries, unfit for consumption.
The Govt of Jammu and Kashmir should take immediate steps to check pollution in this sacred river. The Govt should instruct the departments,  industries and the local resistants not to discharge waste in the river Tawi bed. The river Tawi is beauty of Jammu.
Yours etc….
