Make-up trends for the coming seasons will give you a lot of freedom. They will be a combination of the old and the new, the dramatic and the neutral look. For example, pastel (very light) colours in make up will be in vogue (natural look), or one can go for the dramatic look with red lips or heavy eye make-up. For the skin, the trend continues to move towards the natural look. The aim is to project a non-shiny skin texture. For foundations, go for matte ones. A flawless complexion finish will be very much in vogue.
The make up colour palette for the coming seasons range from soft shades and natural tones that are warm and golden…. to pink, red and orange. Go easy on blusher. Use very little – just enough to provide a natural glow. Bronze and pink blush for cheeks are expected to catch up during the year. Both dramatic and the neutral or nude look will be the trend for lips. Dramatic red for lips continues to be in vogue. Red and shades of red, especially coral is the trend for lips. Plum, wine, dark pink will be popular for the night. Orange is already popular and will continue to be so, especially for fair complexions. Go for neutral shades during the day. Lips are outlined with same colour as lipstick. Glossy lips will stay popular. Go for light pink or beige lipstick during the day, with a hint of pearl, or just plain lip gloss. Lilac, mauve and light pink will also find favour for the day. Of course, one should keep in mind the time of day, the occasion and your individual skin colour tone, while selecting make up colours.
Dramatic and heavy eye make-up, with the black eye-lined or winged eyed look has been the trend and is gaining in popularity. It will be ruling fashion trends. Go for dark eyeliner just under the lower lashes and on upper lid close to
the lashes. Extend the lines on upper and lower eyelids beyond eyes, like the 60s heavy eye make up look. Coloured liners will also be gaining in popularity during the coming season. Pastel eyeliners, in blue, yellow and even orange will be “in” during the coming seasons.
Certain colours work best for the occasion. Here are some tips on make up colours you can go for:
For a casual look, line your eyelids with brown or gray eye shadow. This gives a softer effect. Then, apply mascara, which helps to make the eyes look darker and brighter, but prevents the “heavily made-up” look. For lipstick, use light pastel colours like mauve, browns or pink, provided it complements your skin colour. Colours should not be too intense. If you like, you can wear only lip gloss.
If you wish to go formal, go for plum, wine or burgundy as lipstick colours. Dark brown or dark grey eye shadow can be applied over black eyeliner for a muted effect. Or use mauve or pink eye shadow. Go for the smoky eyes look. After applying eye shadow, apply eye liner close to the lashes on upper eyelid. Then smudge it with a cotton bud. Apply liner just below lower lashes, then smudge it.
For a gala occasion and the party look, try gold foundation, to add a golden glow to the skin. Then apply a golden tinted powder. This adds a golden glow and is great for night make-up. For glamorous eye make-up, use brown, bronze and gold eye shadow. Apply dark brown eye shadow in the crease of the lids, to add depth. Highlight under the brows with gold. Outline the eyes with dark eye pencil or eyeliner. Apply it on the upper lid, close to the lashes and smudge with a cotton bud. Gently blend a line of kohl or eye pencil on the lower lid. Try a touch of blusher at the outer eye, just under the eyebrow. For lips, go for coral, wine, plum, strawberry, red and shades of red. A dark pink or rose-red would look good too. Even brick-red may suit. One can also mix two colours to create the desirable effect.
