NEW DELHI, July 5:  Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today called on promising all-rounder Parvez Rasool to make the State proud after he became the first cricketer from the Valley to be selected in the Indian cricket team for the upcoming ODI tour of Zimbabwe.
Abdullah congratulated Rasool on his selection in the 15-member Indian squad for the five-match ODI series against Zimbabwe.
“Have heard the great news about Parvez Rasool being selected to play for India against Zimbabwe. Well deserved selection. Make us proud now,” the CM wrote on his twitter page.
Rasool today created history by becoming the first cricketer from the State to be named in the senior Indian team to be led by Virat Kohli.
The 24-year-old Rasool, who has been in contention for national selection for a while now after a string of impressive performances, got the nod in the squad after the national selectors preferred to go in with a young team for the series, to be held from July 24 to August 3 at Harare and Bulawayo.
The selectors also picked the India ‘A’ team for the tour of South Africa which also includes Rasool, a native of Bijbehara area in south Kashmir.
The unassuming player from the Valley shot to limelight with a seven-wicket haul against the visiting Australians while playing for the Board President’s XI earlier this year.
Meanwhile, Union Minister & JKCA President Dr Farooq Abdullah has also congratulated Parvez Rasool for his selection in the Indian Cricket team for the forthcoming One Day series in Zimbabwe. Terming Parvez’s selection in the Indian team as a historic day in the cricket  history  of  the State, Dr Abdullah, in a press statement, said,” I am extremely happy on his success. He has reached here by the dint of his hard work.I wish him best of luck and pray for his good performance and the victory of the Indian team in the forthcoming one day series in Zimbabwe.”
