JAMMU, Feb 10: Apni Party today appealed the Government to set up and make the Women Commission functional in J&K as early as possible.
Addressing a joining programme at the Party’s Gandhi Nagar office, Apni Party senior vice president Ghulam Hassan Mir said that the Government has right decision to set up Women Commission in J&K as it would help in redressal of many women related issues. He, however, appealed that the Commission should be set up as early as possible.
“The Commission should be made functional so that the women’s issues can be addressed timely,” Mir said. He said that the problems being confronted by the women often remain unaddressed and hence, the role of Commission becomes important for the redressal of their concerns.
Party’s State general secretary, Vikram Malhotra also spoke on the occasion. He said that the people of J&K want assembly elections and restoration of Statehood which is a common demand of every section of society in both the regions. He said that Apni Party believes in unity of the society and development irrespective of differences.
Provincial Women Wing president Namrta Sharma, who had organized the programme, expressed concern over poor redressal of issues being raced by the women with regard to many issues. Namrta said, “If the Commission for Women is set up as per the announcement of the Government, it would help the women in distress to raise their concern before the Commission.”
Namrta demanded free education to the girls up to the colleges in J&K to encourage them to get higher education. She said the empowerment of women in every field is must as well as strengthening of grievance redressal institutions which were absent from the last several years.
The programme was also attended by spokesperson Syed Asgar Ali, Provincial secretary Dr Rohit Gupta, Provincial organizing secretary Shanker Singh Chib, State vice president Apni Youth Wing Raqeeq Ahmed Khan, State general secretary Youth Wing Abhay Bakaya, Provincial president Apni Trade Union Raj Kumar Sharma, Provincial vice president Apni Trade Union Abdul Latief and many others.
