Malangpora residents protest against water-scarcity

SRINAGAR, June 27: Scores of residents of Malangpora in Awantipora area of south Kashmir today staged a protest against water scarcity and blocked Pulwama road for nearly five hours.
The residents this morning came out of their houses and blocked Awantipora-Pulwama road from 7:00 am to 12 in the noon. The residents raised slogans against Government and said 500 households of the area are without water supply from past three weeks.
The protesters, mostly women holding empty pots, said they are facing tremendous hardship while fetching water from streams as they are on fast because of holy month of Ramadhan. Due to road block, hundreds of vehicles got stranded on the highway to Pulwama.
Later, a senior official of the PHE rushed to the spot and assured protesters that the water supply to the area would be restored soon. The protesters later ended their protest.
