Malik, Aijaz, Saroori campaign for coalition candidates

GOOL, Nov 28:   Minister for Higher Education, A.G. Malik and Minister of State for Haj Aquaf & Fisheries, Aijaz Ahmed today said that a powerful Panchayat Raj system is the commitment of the Coalition Government headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. They appealed the Panchs and Sarpanchs to en-mass vote in favour of National Conference -Congress candidates Dr. Shehnaz Ganai and Sham Lal Bhagat.
The Ministers were addressing Panchs and Sarpanchs at Gool, Mahore and Arnas.
Minister for Higher Education appraised the gathering of the steps being taken up for empowerment of Panchyati Raj in State by the Coalition Government.
Mr. Malik appealed the Panchayat members to ensure victory of NC-Congress candidates in the ensuing Legislative Council elections and pave way for constitution of powerful and viable three tier Panchayat system in the State which he said is the commitment of the Coalition Government.
He further said that success of alliance candidates will be a befitting reply to all those who are trying to undermine the strength of the Coalition Government.
While speaking on the occasion, Aijaz Ahmed Khan said that holding of Panchayat elections after a period of over 30 years indicates the intention of Coalition Government to empower people at grass root and involve them in policy framing and implementation of schemes.
He said Coalition Government has transferred powers of 14 departments to Panchayats. The capacity building training camps and workshops were organized in the State to train Sarpanchs and Panchs and apprise them of their functions and duties at the grass root level. He said steps will be taken to make these Panchayats more effective and vibrant.
Dr. Shehnaz Ganai and Sham Lal Bhagat candidates for Legislative Council seats  also addressed the meetings
Meanwhile, Senior Congress Leader and MLA Inderwal, Ghulam Mohammad Saroori toady said that the establishment of Panchayat Raj Institutions will boost the developmental works in villages and credit goes only to present Coalition Government in the State.
He was addressing Panchs & Sarpanchs of Bunjwah, Saroor, Sarthal, Thatri area of Drabshallah and Thatri block of Inderwal Constituency. He said Panchayat Raj was introduced by former Congress Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and  after more than 30 years Panchayat Raj has been re-established, powers and utilization of funds have transferred to Panchayats in the State.
He was canvassing in support of coalition candidate of Legislative Council Sham Lal Bhagat of Congress and Dr Shenaz Ganai of National Conference.
