Malik inspects University Campus site at Leh

KARGIL/LEH, Sept 14: Minister for Higher Education Labour and Employment Abdul Gani Malik during his extensive tour of Kargil district presided over a meeting of officers of employment and labour welfare. The Minister reviewed the functioning of these departments and took stock of the progress achieved by these departments in providing various facilities to the unemployed youth and financial assistance to registered construction workers.
The meeting was among others attended by Chairman Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Kargil Kachoo Ahmed Ali Khan, Executive Councillor Ghulam Rasool Nagwi, Haji Ghulam Amir MLA Zanskar, Feroze Khan Additional Deputy Commissioner Hassan Khan and officers of Government Degree College Kargil, Labour Welfare Department and Employment Exchange.
On this occasion, the meeting was informed that till date 12630 candidates have registered themselves under Voluntary Service Allowance (VSA) out of which 2499 candidates have been found eligible under the scheme.
Around Rs 14 lakh have been distributed among 2110 candidates under VSA scheme and the cases of 389 beneficiaries are under consideration. The meeting was further informed that 360 cases have been sponsored under Jammu and Kashmir State Self Employment Scheme out of which 78 cases have been sanctioned and loans have been distributed among 24 cases.
The meeting was told that during the last financial year, 321 unemployed educated persons were provided Government job in district Kargil while as 151 posts have been advertised by the District Recruitment Board.
Reviewing the activities of Labour Welfare Department, the Minister was apprised that the department earns the revenue of Rs 9.85 crore from various contractors and projects under execution in the district. Rs 60.49 lakh were distributed in the form of scholarships among the children of registered construction workers.
The Minister expressed satisfaction over the functioning of these departments however, he directed the officers concerned to work with zeal and dedication and extend all possible help to the construction workers and unemployed youth so that the financial support is given to them to live a dignified and honorable life.
Later, on his arrival at Leh the Minister inspected University Campus site. The Minister was informed that the campus is estimated to cost Rs 27.39 crore in the first phase and 819 kanals of land has been provided for its construction.
