MAM College launches Maulana Azad Rolling Trophy

JAMMU, Oct 26: The preliminary round of the Inter-Collegiate Symposium was organized by the IQAC of the MAM College to commemorate National Education Day celebrations and launch the Rolling Trophy in the memory of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first Education Minister of Independent India as the College is named after the legendary personality.
Nearly 35 colleges from the entire province participated in the preliminary round of the Rolling Trophy, the final round of which would be held on November, 11, 2013.
Raman Bhalla, Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture was the chief guest on the valedictory function, while Dr Satinder Singh, Nodal Principal Jammu Province Colleges was the chief guest on the inaugural ceremony.
The programme started with the lighting of traditional lamp by the chief guest and other dignitaries.
Prof Dr Ramesh Chander, Principal in his welcome address asserted that the students should imbibe the values propagated by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad in true letter and spirit.
Dr Satinder Singh in his inaugural address exhorted that education is not the prerogative of the rich; it should be made available to the poor also. He reiterated that one of the cherished objectives of education should be to promote National unity on the basis of a rich diversity of cultures and beliefs.
Mr Bhalla in his valedictory address highlighted the problems faced by the students and the initiatives being taken to improve the standard of education in the present scenario. He emphasized that Maulana Azad was a visionary of modern educational enterprise who laid a strong foundation of a long term educational and cultural development of India.
Prof Rita Munshi, former Principal, Prof MA Wani, former Principal and Professor, University of Jammu and Sant Kumar Sharma, noted journalist were the jury members for the contest.
Dr Twinkle Suri, Coordinator IQAC gave a brief profile of the IQAC and its vital role in ensuring quality upgradiation of the institution. She introduced the contest and formally thanked the guests for their presence.
The programme was anchored by Prof Banpreet Kour, Prof MK Mussa and Ajay Bhagat.
Other prominent members present on the occasion were Prof.Renu Nanda, Dr.Sangeeta Sudan, Prof.Ramesh Gupta, Prof.Rajni, Prof.Ashok Kumar, Prof.Nirlape Kour, Dr Shalini Sharma, Prof IA Khan, Prof Harpreet Kour, Prof.Shivi Mehra, Prof Sujat Khan,  Prof Rakesh Sharma and Prof Sudesh Kumar.
Ghulam Mustafa of GDC Poonch, Vishal Pathania of GDC Kathua, Kumarjit Chajgotra of GDC Hiranagar secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize respectively. Total number of 15 participants were selected for the final round to be held on November 11, 2013.
