JAMMU, Sept 10: Police today arrested a fraudster, who had solemnized four marriages by cheating and harassing the women, from his Sweet Home Apartments at Channi Himmat.
The arrest was made on a complaint lodged by third wife of the cheat, who has been identified as Balwant Singh, 67, son of Dewan Singh R/o Nowshera, presently putting up at Sweet Home Apartments, Channi Himmat.
Police said a FIR No. 77/2012 under Sections 376, 493, 344 and 506 RPC has been registered against Balwant Singh on the basis of a complaint lodged by his third wife, Gurpreet Kour daughter of Gurbachan Singh R/o Model Town, Digiana.
Police said Singh had been commissioned in Army as an Officer (2nd Lieutenant) in the year 1966. He married Jasbir Kour daughter of Sohan Singh of Bakshi Nagar, a retired IFS officer. However, he started harassing and torturing Jasbir Kour and then divorced her.
She adopted similar tactics against two other woman including Urmila Kumari of Nowshera, presently posted as a Head Master in a Government school and then Gurpreet Kour.
He had married and divorced another girl, Ruby Sharma of Bhawani, Nowshera.
Police said Gurpreet Kour, who had already been divorced in Punjab, married her in 2004 when Balwant Singh was 59 but he showed his age as 45. When Gurpreet turned pregnant, Balwant pressed her for abortion and then started threatening and harassing her, finally giving her divorce.
On a complaint of Gurpreet Kour, a Channi Himmat police station team headed by SHO Deepak Pathania under the supervision of SP City (South) Rajeshwar Singh and SDPO East SS Samyal today arrested Balwant Singh and registered a case against him for further investigations.
