RAJOURI, Apr 28: A notorious cheat involved in several ATM card thefts and fraudulently withdrawing money has been arrested in Rajouri area by police.
Official sources said that one Mohd Rizwan, son of Mohd Luqman, resident of village Saaj in Thannamandi was involved in multiple incidents of cheating and thefts. They said Rizwan would “fraudulently” take ATM cards from individuals and use them to withdraw money from the machines.
As per reports on April 25 one Attaullah, son of Slah Mohd from Dhala in Kalakote lodged a written complaint at Police Station Rajouri that unknown person swapped his ATM debit card while he was withdrawing money from JK Bank ATM at Gujjar Mandi and fraudulently with another similar card from which an amount of Rs 25000 has been withdrawn from his account. On this a case FIR No. 190/2023 U/s 420/379 IPC was registered and investigation started. A police team, from Rajouri headed by PSI Farah Jabeen under the supervision of SHO Rajouri Mohd Showket and Dy SP Mudasir Hussain, nabbed Mohd Rizwan from Saaj area. Rs 38500 cash, ATM card of the applicant with 8 other ATM cards has been recovered from his possession.
During investigation it was observed that the above said accused is addict to psychotropic substances and to meet his need for the same , he used to stay near ATMs to target the innocents in the pretext of helping them to withdraw cash and replace the debit cards so far he duped around more than a dozen persons.
