Man attacks RPF constable with sword to snatch weapon, held

JAMMU, July 25: A sword-wielding man attacked a Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable at the Jammu Railway Station on Wednesday evening in an attempt to steal his weapon, police said.
Constable Mohan Lal sustained injuries in the assault but successfully prevented the assailant from seizing his rifle, they said.
The incident occurred Wednesday evening when Devendra Singh, a Kathua resident currently residing in Jammu’s Nanak Nagar, disembarked from the Jhelum Express and launched the attack.

Singh, who has a criminal background including a murder case in Kathua, was out on bail for health reasons.
Following the attack, Singh tried to flee the scene but was swiftly apprehended by Railway police personnel who responded quickly to the situation.
A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media.
Authorities have filed a case against Singh at the Railway Police Station, and investigations are underway to determine the motive behind his attempt to snatch the weapon.
