Man dies after being hit by tree branch

SRINAGAR, Dec 17: In a tragic incident, a man lost his life today after a Chinar tree branch, cut illegally, fell on him in Patti Rampora area of Ganderbal district
The incident occurred on the Ganderbal-Safapora road when a branch of tree, allegedly being cut without proper permission, fell on a private bus conductor, Umar Ganai, a resident of Safapora. It led to his on the spot death.
Eyewitnesses said the tragedy unfolded when Ganai stepped out of the bus to remove a rope barrier that had been put up to stop traffic movement in the danger zone.
“The rope barrier was placed to restrict entry while the tree was being cut, but the conductor attempted to remove it. Just as the bus was about to pass, a branch suddenly fell, and the conductor was struck,” an eyewitness said.
He added that the impact left Umar critically injured. “people immediately rushed him to District Hospital Ganderbal, but doctors on duty declared him dead on arrival,” he said.
Javeed Ahmad Zargar, Tehsildar Laar, said that the tree was being cut illegally, without the required permission.
The incident has triggered panic in the area, and police have taken cognizance of the incident.
The District Magistrate Ganderbal has ordered inquiry into the death of Ganai. Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Mohammad Altaf Bhat has been appointed as inquiry officer. He has been asked to submit a detailed report within a week.
