Man dies at SDH Banihal, inquiry ordered

RAMBAN, Aug 21: A septuagenarian here today died at Sub District Hospital, Banihal and his family members claimed that no doctor attended him which led to his death while the Health Department authorities have rejected the claim and the Chief Medical Officer Ramban, Dr Kamal Zadoo has ordered an inquiry into the matter.
In an order the CMO stated that a two member committee including District Health Officer, Dr Mohammad Iqbal Malik and Medical Officer, Dr. Mohammad Syed has been constituted to conduct the inquiry into the incident in depth and submit the factual report along with definite remarks within two days.
The deceased was identified as Gulam Nabi Bhat, resident of Banihal and he was suffering from some chronic disease and was brought to Sub District Hospital Banihal by his son and relatives today morning.
After the death of the patient someone recorded a video showing attendants trying to revive the patient.
However, in a letter to CMO Ramban, the Block Medical Officer Banihal has written that as per CCTV footage of the hospital the matter was inquired and it came to fore that paramedical staff and the doctor were very much on duty in the Ward for check-up of admitted patients.
In letter the BMO also stated that the patient was given emergency injections and CPR by the pharmacist and when the doctor reached in the emergency room he also started CPR on the patient but his pulse failed to return.
On this the attendants assaulted the doctor on duty insisting further CPR while the ECG also declared him brought dead after which the attendants started making a video of the deceased.
