SRINAGAR, Nov 3: An elderly man today suffered cardiac arrest and died on spot in South Kashmir’s Shopian district during clashes that erupted during a land acquisition drive in the area.
Eyewitnesses said that some locals including females resorted to stone-pelting on a land acquisition team in Hermain village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
The team was led by Tehsildar Hermain along with Block Development Officer Hermain. They had arrived in the village to take possession of the land which is supposed to be converted into a sports ground.
The locals, resenting the move, resorted to stone-pelting during which an elderly man suffered a heart attack and died on spot.
The deceased was Abdul Salam Thokar, 75, a resident of Padderpora Shopian.
