KISHTWAR, June 20: Police here today arrested five persons after a man drowned in a rivulet.
As per the case on June 18, 2023, Police Station Warwan received information that one Shabir Ahmed Chopan, son of Ali Mohd Chopan, resident of Larnoo, Anantnag, who had Chowgan dispute with the people of village Bismina Warwan after heated arguments with them allegedly jumped into the river near Margi Warwan.
In this regard a case in FIR No. 02/23 U/Sec. 306/34 IPC has been registered at Police Station Warwan against 16 persons out of which five were arrested.
The arrested persons were Mohd Yousuf Wagay, son of Ab. Rehman Wagay, resident of Basmina; Tariq Ahmed Wani, son of Mohd Ismail Wani, resident of Basmina; Mohd Amin Shan, son of Khazir Shan, resident of Basmina; Gh Mohd Koka, son of Ab Rahman Koka, resident of Basmina and Tarjeed Ahmad Shan, son of Gh Hassan Shan, resident of Basmina. More arrests in the case are likely.
Simultaneously rescue teams were also pressed into service to trace out the body of the drowned person. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has also been constituted by SSP Kishtwar to probe the matter and the SIT shall be headed by SDPO Marwah.
SSP Kishtwar assured transparent and fair investigation on scientific lines.
