Man fakes abduction to avoid marriage against will

SRINAGAR, Feb 26: A man in south Kashmir faked his kidnapping with the help of his brother and friends to avoid marrying a girl against his will.
A police spokesman said police received a complaint was filed by Shameem Ahmad Magray of Qasbyar in Pulwama district that his brother, Arshid Ahmad Margay, was kidnapped on gunpoint from his house by unknown men in the night February 21.
The spokesman said police started investigation and Arshid was traced from Wathoo.
“Arshad was engaged to a girl against his will. To avoid marriage he plotted his abduction with the help Shahmeem and his friends, Ferooz Ahmad Mir, Fayaz Ahmad Shah, Javid Ahmad Dar and Ashiq Hussain Shah, who acted as militants and abducted him,” he said.
The spokesman said the “abducted man” did all this drama to give an impression that the girl to whom he was engaged was having an affair with somebody else, who with the help of unknown gunmen has kidnapped him.
Police will take action under law against the people involved in staging this fake abduction, he added.
