Man who fraudulently withdrew Rs 2.35 lakh from ATM held in Rajouri

JAMMU :  A man who had fraudulently withdrew cash from an ATM from the account of the complainant was arrested today alongwith the money transacted in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.
“On Jul 1, one Prithvi Raj, resident of Dhangri lodged a complaint that he visited SBI Bank ATM on Jun 22 at Jawahar Nagar for withdrawal of money but due to lack of knowledge, he sought the help of a person present in the ATM Cabin,” police spokesman here said.
He said during the process, the accused identified as Mohammad Rafiq, resident of Rehan, tehsil Koteranka, changed the ATM card with his own card and later fraudulently withdrew Rs 2.35 lakh from the account of the complainant     A case was registered and investigations started.    “Acting on the complaint, investigations started and on the basis of specific information and CCTV footage, the accused was arrested and the amount withdrawn was also recovered,” said the spokesman.
“Police was looking for this notorious cheat since long as number of such cases have been reported in the past also,” Mubassir Latifi SP Rajouri said.
He said the cheat who happens to be a Diploma Engineer presently working in Rajouri, would be interrogated thoroughly to find out whether he was deceiving the public alone or a part of any bigger organized group.
