Man gets 5 years in jail for trying to rape three-yr-old girl

NEW DELHI, Oct 31: A man has been jailed for five years for attempting to rape a three-year-old girl by a Delhi court, which observed that moral values are vanishing day-by-day.
The court awarded the jail term to 25-year-old Praveen, who had tried to rape his neighbour after taking her to a park on the pretext of giving her a chocolate.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on Inderpuri resident Praveen and said if the amount is realised, it should be given to the child as compensation.
“The criminal act committed by convict (Praveen) depicts utmost depravity on his part. He has acted like a beast or a wild animal without thinking for a while that his prey is only a girl aged just three years.
“Just a thought of a man ravishing or attempting to ravish a three-year-old girl, sends shivers down one’s spine. In present times, it is seen that morality has taken a big hit. Moral values are vanishing day-by-day and the so-called modern man of 21st century is far worse than the man of ‘stone age’ when it comes to moral values,” Additional Sessions Judge Virender Bhat said.
According to the prosecution, the incident took place in May last year when the child was playing outside her house with her younger brother and Praveen came to her and offered her a chocolate.
He then took her to a nearby park and attempted to rape her, it said. When the girl’s mother could not find the minor, the family started searching her and on hearing her cries, they reached the park where Praveen was also present.
The victim told her mother about the incident and police was called there.
The court said the convict found a soft target in the child.
“She trusted the convict and accompanied him. There was nobody to save the minor child from the clutches of the convict in the park. He was bent upon satisfying his sexual lust upon her but her honour and dignity seems to have been protected by only the Almighty.
“It is not difficult to imagine the plight of the child and the emotional trauma she was going through when Praveen was attempting to rape her,” the court said.
The court also said that the crime committed by Praveen was of “extremely grave and severe” nature and he deserved no leniency but an exemplary sentence, which is the cry of the day as the crime against women particularly against minor girls needs to be checked.
“Even a minor girl is not safe while playing in the lane in front of her house, what more remains to be said. This is a painful situation which haunts many a parents of the child in this holy land of ‘Bharat’, where girls used to be worshipped as a form of Goddess and it was considered that where girls are worshipped, there is abode of God…
“They (men) need to be reminded that the girl child is to be worshipped and not to be raped. It is aptly said that human goodness has limits but human depravity has none,” the court said. (PTI)
