Man gives light to two blind patients in GMCH Jammu

JAMMU, May 29: A man died in road accident, gave light to two blind persons in Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu today.
A 30-year-old man admitted in Super Speciality Hospital (SSH) Jammu following a road accident was declared dead and his family consented to donate his eyes. This was the first such case in SSH. In house attempt was made by SSH authorities for the first time with support from SOTTO J&K for eye donation.
Irfan Ahmad Lone, Transplant Coordinator of SOTTO took the initiative to motivate the family for corneal donation which gave a new lease of life to two blind patients (aged 55 and 60) who received transplants at GMCH Jammu. It is pertinent to mention here that this is the second corneal donation in this month in GMCH.
The transplant team was led by Dr Sanjay Kai Professor (Head of 2nd Unit, Ophthalmology Department). The Enucleation was accomplished by Dr Malvika (Registrar), Dr Manpreet (Registrar), Rifat Hamid (Sister Incharge, Eye Bank) and Anjuman (MTS).
