KATRA, Apr 6: A man was arrested for allegedly impersonating a police personnel and stealing some personal items including mobile phones of pilgrims visiting cave shrine of Mata Vaishnodevi.
Haryana-resident Devinder Chouhan had complained that he and his colleague had reached the cave shrine when a man claiming to be a police personnel approached them and asked for Rs 400 per person for speedy ‘darshan’.
They paid the amount to him and the accused facilitated their entry via gate number 5 and the duo also kept three mobile phones, jackets and other items with him as per his advise in view of the shortage of space in locker room at the Bhawan.
On returning after paying obesance, they found the accused missing with all their belongings including mobile phones. After which Chouhan and his colleagues lodged a complaint.
Police launched a manhunt and arrested the accused, who happens to be a daily wager with Public Health Engineering (PHE) department of J&K government, and recovered all the items from him.
