RAMBAN, Aug 4: Chanderkote police arrested a man along with poppy straw.
As per police sources, a team from Chanderkote police station led by ASI Attam Singh under the supervision of SHO Chanderkote Inspector Daljit Singh laid a naka and asked a pedestrian carrying luggage bag to stop for checking.
On seeing police cops, the pedestrian escaped from the spot. Stinking something fishy, the cops chased and nabbed the person.
During checking, police recovered 4 kilograms poppy straw concealed in the luggage bag and arrested the person.
The accused has been identified as Mohammad Iqbal Rather, son of Abdul Ahad Rather, a resident of District Kulgam, Kashmir.
He had brought the consignment from Kashmir and was on the way to sale it among the people in Chanderkote and adjoining areas, but police arrested him and foiled his attempt to make people drug addicts.
A case under FIR Number 43/16 under Section 8/15 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against the accused at police station Chanderkote and investigation started.
