Man hit by stray bullet, people protest

RAMBAN, July 17: A man was injured today when a bullet allegedly fired from a CRPF bunker hit him at Bhaderwah morh.
According to a police spokesman, a man identified as Faroq Sheikh son of Mohd Akbar, resident of Ward No 2, Batote, got injured by a stray bullet today at about 7 am at Bhaderwah morh, Batote.
The injured man was shifted to Batote Hospital from where he was referred to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu.
Alleging that the bullet came from the nearby bunker of the CRPF of 84 Battalion established at bye pass, local people held a protest demonstration soon after the incident, demanding enquiry into the matter and compensation in favour of the victim.
After receiving information, Tehsildar Batote, Additional SP, Mustaq Choudary, Deputy SP Headquarter, Imtiyaz Ahmed and SHO Batote rushed to the spot and pacified the protesting people, following which they dispersed at about 10 am. Meanwhile, CRPF has denied the allegations.
Batote police is investigating the matter.
