Man jumps from Tawi bridge, survives

JAMMU, Aug 18: A man today allegedly tried to end his life by jumping into river Tawi from main bridge but survived with severe injuries.
According to a police spokesperson, a man identified as Abhishek (40) son of Mahesh Chander Mehta of Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, this evening jumped from main Tawi bridge to end his life. However, he escaped but suffered severe injuries.
He said the flying squad of the police immediately rushed to the spot and evicted the man from river water and shifted him to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu.
“It could not be ascertained why the man took such extreme step, as he was unconscious and unfit for statement, when the last reports came in”, he said, adding a case in this connection has been registered at police station Nowabad.
