UDHAMPUR, Nov 18: In a shocking incident, an inebriated man brutally murdered his mother-in-law and critically injured his wife along with her sister-in-law at village Kiya in Ramnagar, here late last night.

A family dispute is stated to be cause of the assault when the accused attacked the trio with an axe at the house of his in-laws on Sunday night around 11pm.
Leaving his victims in a pools of blood, the accused fled the scene after committing the crime. However, Police apprehended him within hours while a case has been registered in this connection at Police Station Ramnagar.

According to Police, Shanti Devi, wife of Shonku Ram, resident of Kiya Tehsil Ramnagar, was hacked to death by her son-in-law namely Suresh Kumar, son of Krishan Kumar of Kiya Ramnagar at her home in the late hours of November 17.
After killing his mother in-law, the accused also inflicted serious injuries on his wife Lalita Devi (19) and her sister-in law Anju Devi (21), wife of Baldev Raj (brother of Lalita).
The villagers rushed the injured victims to hospital where doctors referred the duo to District Hospital Udhampur. Lalita Devi was further referred to GMC Hospital Jammu in view of her serious condition.
After receiving the information, Police rushed to the spot and launched a hunt to nab the accused, who had fled the scene after committing the crime . Police team, led by SHO Ramnagar, Inspector Sureshwar Dev Singh, under the supervision of SDPO Ramnagar Manjeet Singh, acted swiftly and soon arrested the accused Suresh Kumar.
Rakesh, brother-in-law of the accused, informed that the latter was under the influence of liquor when he came to their home and axed-to-death his mother besides injuring his wife and sister (Suresh Kumar’s wife).
Rakesh informed that after a quarrel with her husband over some issue a few days back, his sister had come to her parental house and Suresh was pressing her to return home. Last night Suresh came in an inebriated condition and after a brief verbal dual, attacked the victims with an axe, he added.
A case FIR number 111/2024, under section 103/109/331(6) BNS has been registered in this connection at Police Station Ramnagar and investigation is going on.
