JAMMU, Mar 4: The Commissioner/ Secretary of the Housing & Urban Development Department (H&UDD), Mandeep Kaur, visited waste disposal site of Jammu Municipal Corporation in Kot-Bhalwal. The purpose of her visit was to assess the progress on under construction waste treatment facility and waste dumping site.
During her inspection, she was apprised on site plan and progress made till date on Integrated Solid Waste Management project of 350TPD being developed by NAFED. Representative of NAFED, updated on progress on Material Recovery Facility for handing dry waste and explained plan for upcoming Bio-digestor for handling wet waste.
Commissioner Secretary expressed her displeasure over slow progress of work and directed NAFED representative to intensify their efforts to meet the project deadlines. Thereafter she also visited the waste dump site and accessed the requirement of bio remediation of the waste accumulated.
Later, Commissioner Secretary also visited Central Jail Kot-Bhalwal to examine the waste management practices in place. She advised the jail authorities to devise a solid waste management plan that could be sustained internally. Furthermore, she emphasized the importance of training inmates in waste management techniques, fostering an environment of self-sufficiency and rehabilitation.
The visit by the Commissioner/Secretary highlights the Government’s dedication to enhancing the waste processing infrastructure and services within Jammu City. It provided an opportunity to monitor the progress of critical projects and to issue directives aimed at ensuring their successful and timely completion.
Among others Commissioner JMC, Deputy Commissioner (North), Health Officer, Executive Engineer, AEE (M), representatives of NAFED were present during the visit.
