Manhas’s concern over collapse of Assembly complex portion

JAMMU, Dec 14: BJP State president Shamsher Singh Manhas expressed his great sadness and pain on the recent caving in of a portion of State Legislative complex at Jammu. He said that collapse of the historic and most important structure in Jammu region is symptomatic of the total and complete lack of accountability of the engineers and the contractors who are working in the State unmindful of the public convenience, safety and consequences of their way of functioning.
Citing the example of digging up of the arterial roads of Jammu and leaving these roads without any proper levelling and black topping and thus leaving general public to their fate, Manhas said that there has been no accountability in the past of the concerned engineers and the agencies on the part of ruling politicians, who are more interested in their power. The engineers, agencies and contractors have been emboldened by the ruling coalition and have thus become immune to the public suffering and inconvenience.
Manhas said that whatever had been done in the vicinity of the Legislative complex by the engineers and contractors reflects their work culture as cultivated and fostered by the Coalition Government’s politicians. He said the BJP demands that an impartial inquiry by civil engineering experts from outside the state, preferably belonging to IIT Delhi or Rourke, be conducted to find out the erring staff and the contractors to be dealt sternly to send a clear message to the executing agencies of the public works.
