Manipur Councillors seek Dr Jitendra’s intervention

NEW DELHI, June 24: A delegation of Manipur Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) led by Gennei Chup Vaiphei, Convener of the Coordination Committee of Councillors, called on Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports, MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh here and sought his intervention for a wide range of developmental, administrative and political issues related to the State of Manipur as well as some of their concerns related to the functioning of the ADCs.
The Councillors expressed gratitude and appreciated positive response shown by Dr Jitendra Singh to the demands made by them on different occasions in the past and recalled that 30 schools had already been supported by the Ministry of DoNER following a request made by them. But they insisted that out of the remaining 270 primary schools suggested by them also, the DoNER Ministry should try to support as many as possible.
The Councillors also expressed certain apprehensions regarding the recommendations of the 14th Finance Pay Commission and said that their interest should be adequately protected in the Commission’s Report.
The Councillors also took up the issue of Hill Area Committees and Article-371(c) and urged that their concerns should be addressed in any further deliberation on the subject.
Dr Jitendra Singh assured the Councillors that the Modi Government gives high priority to the development of Northeast region and all the sensitivities and concerns of the State of Manipur as well as those of ADCs are very much in the consideration of the Union Government. He assured the members of delegation that, among the various issues raised by the Councillors those pertaining to the DoNER Ministry will be directly dealt by him and those pertaining to other Ministries or Departments will be appropriately taken up by him at the appropriate level.
Dr Jitendra Singh noted that during the last one year, Manipur had gone through a series of natural calamities and undesirable events including heavy floods, unexpected earthquakes and incidents of violence. He said, the DoNER Ministry and the Union Government were always there by the side of the people of Manipur at each of these adverse situations and in future also, the Modi Government will continue to lend every possible support in all kinds of circumstances.
