SAMBA, July 10: Urging the Government to reduce power tariff, Apni Party provincial president Jammu, Manjit Singh here today asked why the Government is denying 24*7 electricity supply even after charging hefty power tariff from consumers.
Manjit said this during a tour of Bari Brahmana Block in Samba District. He was accompanied by ST J&K president of the Party, Saleem Alam.
After hearing grievances of the people, Singh said that the Government is not working for the welfare of the people as bureaucracy has taken over the charge for the last several years in the absence of an elected Government.
“The hefty power charges have put an additional burden on the pockets of general masses and have led to strong resentment. The unscheduled power cuts have also affected drinking water supply and has given rise to the feeling of discontent among the people for the Government,” the Apni Party leader maintained.
He lauded the role of daily wagers, who work round the clock and ensure the people get electricity.
“These daily wagers get very less wages which should be enhanced to a respectable level and accordingly, the shortage of linemen is a sign of poor planning in the department,” he said demanding recruitment for the linemen to fill up all the vacant posts in JPDCL.
Singh also demanded that the daily wagers should be regularized and their demand for Minimum Wages Act should be implemented.
