SAMBA, Mar24 : Apni Party provincial president ,Jammu and former Minister, Manjit Singh today demanded that the compensation amount fixed for the residents of Dera Gandotran along Jammu-Pathankot National Highway extension should be enhanced at par with market rate.
Manjit Singh chaired a meeting of people in village Dera Gandotran situated close to the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway and listen to their grievances.
The people were concerned over the taking over of their land by the authorities for the widening of the National Highway and Ring Road in Samba district which would snatch the agricultural land from them and leave many of the families landless.
“The authorities are not allotting alternative land to the farmers whose land is being used in the highway extension or Ring Road Project in Samba district. The families are concerned about the attitude adopted by the authorities towards their genuine demands,” he said after listening to the people. He assured that their demands would be projected before the concerned authorities.
He said that the people have demanded enhancement of compensation which is being offered to the farmers per kanal.
The villagers of Dera Gandotran are being offered Rs 20 lakh per kanal which is very less amount in comparison to other adjoining villages which are being given Rs 30 to 35 lakhs per kanal, he said. The area is commercial hub and the authorities should not compromise with the future of the people,” he said citing the complaints of the people.
He said that the development is must but it should not be at the cost of suffering of the people.
“The people are disturbed with the projected development which is not a good sign for the Government. Development should be sustainable accommodating every section with no damage to ecology and with no displacement to local population,” he said.
