VIJAYPUR, Apr 21: Former Minister and senior Congress leader Manjit Singh has demanded a probe into the alleged non-payment under NREGA in Bassi area falling in Vijaypur constituency.
Following complaints by the locals, Manjit Singh appelead Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to look into the issue, as the NREGA workers of Bassi area did not get payment since last one year or more.
Singh accused the concerned officers of deliberately violating norms and blocking the payment without any reason even as the Central Government has issued the same.
“Those holding job cards have also not been given jobs for 100 days as ensured under NREGA,” Singh said in response to the complaints lodged with him by the locals.
He said that the poor people have been deprived of work and this matter needs to be investigated by the Government.
Referring to the ration supply to the Above Poverty Line (APL) and Below Poverty Line (BPL), Manjit Singh said that the people of Bassi village have not received Government ration since long.
“The ration is allegedly black marketed and it did not reach among the people,” he alleged.
Later, he appealed youth to strengthen the Congress party and said that Congress party is one which can keep all the three regions of the State united, while assuring that his party will form the next Government with majority votes.
Prominent among those who were present on the occasion included Pushp Raj ex-chairman municipal committee Bari Brahmana, Gopal Bhagat, Vijay Kumar, Akram Raza, Tara Chand, Ajay Sharma, Ranjeet Singh, Babu Ramm, Taarseem Kumaar, Darshan Lal, Panch Puran Chand and others.
