SAMBA, July 18: Apni Party Provincial President, Jammu and former Minister, Manjit Singh has accused the Govt of harassing pensioners and J&K Govt employees in the name of completing complicated formalities.
“These formalities are time and again are being demanded by the authorities to be completed by the pensioners even after knowing the elderly pensioners are not in position to visit their respective offices for verification purpose/submission of documents,” he said while chairing a meeting at village Gobind – Puri in Vijaypur, Samba District.
Manjit Singh questioned the intentions of the authority to force people to visit their respective offices, and banks for the fulfilment of required documents. “Is it worth to force a person in their 80s to come and complete the formalities? These decisions are authoritarian and the Govt should roll back such decisions/orders as soon as possible. These dictates have created an atmosphere of confusion, and chaos for the ex-employees, serving employees, old age pensioners, handicapped pensioners, and others who get pension from the Govt,” he added and sought an explanation from the Govt as to why the people are being pushed to the wall with these directives.
The Apni Party leader said that the proposal to hold Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir is a welcome step, but an elected Govt without powers would have no meaning.
“It would be a helpless Govt that would not be able to work as per the wishes of the people in Jammu and Kashmir. On the other hand, the Govt has granted more power to Lt Governor who is not an elected representative of the people,” he said and added that the Central Govt should realize the situation and ensure an elected Govt should have all the Constitutional rights to act independently like rest of the States in the country.
Meanwhile, Manjit Singh also discussed various developmental issues with the people, and assured that demands of the people would be projected before the authorities for early redressal.
