JAMMU, Sept 21: Apni Party Provincial President Jammu and former Minister, S Manjit Singh today directed the party leaders heading different wings, to prepare for the Urban Local Body and Panchayat elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
A meeting was organized here at the Gandhi Nagar Office in Jammu under the leadership of S Manjit Singh to review the working and preparedness of the party cadre. The meeting was attended by Provincial office bearers, District Presidents, frontal heads and active members.
While taking review of the party’s working and holding threadbare discussion over the organisational issues, the former Minister expressed his satisfaction that the membership drives as well as door to door campaign have gained momentum. He appreciated the party leaders for the work and directed them to highlight the concerns of the people in Jammu plains, particularly in Jammu, Samba and Kathua Districts.
He expressed his concern over the continuous collection of illegal Toll Tax at Sarore Toll Plaza in Samba and the worsening condition of Jammu-Srinagar highway that has forced commuters to face hardships. He also alleged that the development in rural areas, including the border belt has come to stand still whereas Udhampur district is among the worst hit where development, and road infrastructure is missing.
“The health and educational infrastructure requires improvement because the present Govt is unable to do the work as the wishes of the people in all the districts of Jammu region,” he said while asserting that the anger against the authorities is not only in Jammu, but the people in Kashmir are equally suffering.
“People of Jammu have suffered badly at the hands of the non-locals and they expect a change in the governance. Therefore, both the regions demanded early Assembly Elections in J&K with the restoration of statehood,” he said and added that the people believe that the democratic Govt would represent them and do work as per their aspirations.
Manjit Singh alleged that the bureaucracy has caused an uneasy calm and resentment against the administration because the public issues are not being given heed, and the authorities are working unilaterally without consulting the people.
He also raised the issue of border villagers and increasing unemployment among the youth.
