Manjit Singh pays tributes to farmer martyrs

SAMBA, Aug 28: Apni Party, Provincial President, Jammu, and former Minister, Manjit Singh today paid rich tributes to two martyrs who laid down their lives for the cause of the farmers during an agitation in the district in 1991.
A function was organised to pay homage and respect at the memorial of two farmers namely Sardar Puran Singh and Romesh Lal who were martyred in police firing thirty years back in Vijaypur.
These martyrs had participated in an agitation of farmers in Vijaypur demanding adequate water supply and they were fired upon by the police force in which both had lost their lives.
After garlanding the memorial at Vijaypur, Manjit Singh also spoke on the occasion and appreciated the farmer’s unity and their sacrifices.
“Even after 30 years, the farmers are facing same problems of water and electricity. It shows how serious the previous Govts were with the farmers and their issues,” said Manjit Singh.
He said that the very low rainfall has adverse effect on the paddy crops leading to huge losses to the farmers, should be compensated by the Govt after declaring Samba as drought hit.
