SAMBA, Feb 3: Apni Party Provincial President and former Minister, Manjit Singh has appealed to the Govt of India to release the pending Rs 25 lakhs financial package for the Displaced Persons (DPs), here today.
It was stated by the former Minister while addressing a public meeting at Khour Salaria in Block Ramgarh, which was organized by District President Legal Cell, Adv Sahil Bharti. Block President Ramgarh, Bachan Lal, Som Lal and others were present during the meeting.
He said that the DPs are among the worst affected people who were displaced from PoJK and Chhamb areas following hostility between two countries. “These people were compelled by the circumstances to abandon their own fertile agricultural land, residential houses and commercial places and settled in the border belt of Jammu region. In this situation, it becomes imperative for the Govt to come forward and help these DPs to re-settle with the financial support,” he said.
He further said that the previous Union Govt. had sanctioned Rs 25 lakhs per family of DPs but only Rs 5.5 lakh was released and unfortunately this amount too, could not reach all the families.
As far as Rs 25 lakhs financial package is concerned, he said, that is still pending with the Union Govt and hence, the Govt should not delay and release it without further delay so that the DPs can be provided financial support to revive their livelihood.
The former Minister demanded that the authorities should constitute a team of officials to visit the border villages and ensure development.  “The unemployment among the DPs and Refugees youth has increased and hence, the Govt should hold on the spot recruitment in the paramilitary and Indian Army,” he demanded.
