JAMMU, Nov 2: Senior BJP leader and MLA Chenani, Balwant Singh Mankotia today refuted the media reports on the basis of a PIL in the High Court according to which he was involved in some criminal cases.

Talking to media persons, here today, Mankotia claimed that there was no pending criminal case against him and he had mentioned the same in the affidavit filed recently before the Election authorities while contesting in the Assembly elections.
“The media report on the basis of some PIL in High Court is defamatory and there is no truth in the purported status report, according to which I am involved in some criminal cases,” he said and sought a rebuttal of the news item, published in newspaper.
Pertinent to mention that the High Court had sought latest status report of the Home Department of J&K and Ladakh Union Territories providing therein the details of criminal cases against the politicians and the process of trail of these cases. The authorities in its status report, have given the information about the criminal trial of 13 politicians pending before the court.
Mr Mankotia claimed that there might be some error in the status report and if there were any criminal case pending against him, he would have mentioned the same in the affidavit filed before the Election authorities.
He appealed media to cross-check the facts before publishing any news item which could be defamatory and damage reputation of any individual.
