UDHAMPUR, Dec 13: A strong demonstration against Municipal Council Udhampur (MCU) under the leadership of former MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia, was held today over the issue of dumping garbage waste in Sui village.
While addressing media persons, Mankotia stated that in 2014, houses and land were ruined due to land sliding at Saddal village and the people left homeless by this natural calamity were kept there for a short time but even after seven years the Government has not made permanent arrangements for their rehabilitation. “Till now, no arrangement could be made, their small children and a large number of people live here,” he added
Mankotia said that the district officer at that time had said that they want to install a kill waste management machine in this village. He said at that time the Sarpanch and elderly women of the village gave representation to the district administration several times, but forced pressure was made on them from their side. He said that the people of the village were befooled by the district administration on the name of development.
“Due to garbage dumping in this village, there is so much filth and every other villager is getting sick every day,” Mankotia said. He shared that he had taken up the matter with Lieutenant Governor also but nothing was done yet.
The former MLA said that the Government is running a cleanliness campaign all over the country, but here the district administration is throwing garbage outside our houses, which is not tolerable.
