Mankotia raises water problem of Udhampur with Taj

JAMMU, Dec 13: Member Legislative Assembly Udhampur, Balwant Singh Mankotia raised the issue of scarcity of drinking water in Udhampur during a meeting with Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Taj Mohi-ud-din here.
He informed the minister that during the DDB meeting in february held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, it was decided under Phase-II  of the Rs. 28.84 lakh scheme to lift 16 lakh gallon of water from Salara. He further informed that due to non-availability of funds for the scheme for last four years, work has been stopped. He said that even after tendering the JKPDC officials are not allowing nor working on the scheme.
Mankotia further informed the minister that presently Udhampur town is getting 32 lakh gallons of drinking water and with the completion of second phase city would be getting 48 lakh gallons of water which would be distributed among the city and nearby villages.
The Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Taj Mohi-ud-Din immediately ordered the PDC officials to immediately give permission for starting the work on Phase II of the scheme so that people of Udhampur get adequate drinking water facility.
