JAMMU, May 26: President of All India Jat Maha Sabha (AIJMS) and former Mayor Choudhary Manmohan Singh today called on Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar and highlighted the burning issues of the Jat community in J&K.
At the outset of the meeting, the senior Jat leader sought land ownership rights for the refugees and border community while stating that despite lapse of so many years the issue is still lingering as Government is unconcerned and is adopting a dilly-dallying approach.
He said that after displacement in 1965 and 1971 due to wars, Jats had lost their ancestral land and other properties, and were rendered as refugees. “Upon this, land chunks were allotted to them by the Government along the border between Kathua to Akhnoor area but despite passing of decades, the community is awaiting ownership rights despite the fact that they are in physical possession of the land and cultivating the same continuously,” he added.
The former Mayor also raised the issue of families which failed to get Rs 5.5 lakh relief due to inadequate documentation. He demand the Government to ensure justice to the left out families as reproducing nearly 70 years old documents is not possible for all.
After giving a patient hearing to the Jat leader, the Divisional Commissioner assured that he will take up all the issues at the concerned quarters.
The delegation comprised of Brig Pawan Sauntra, Saprnach Sarabjit Singh, Sarpanch Reena Choudhary and Naib Sarpanch Advocate Devender Singh.
