Manohar appeals civil society to contribute in checking female foeticide

KATHUA, Aug 25: Minister of State for Fisheries, Cooperative, Finance and Planning Dr Manohar Lal Sharma has called upon civil     society to create awakening among the public about the grave consequences of   female foeticide.
The Minister was addressing the students during a Symposium on “Save the Girl Child” held here today at Government Higher Secondary School   Durung of tehsil Billawar.
Dr Sharma said that Female Foeticide is not only an inhuman practice but has also disturbed the gender ratio in the society which is detrimental to the survival of mankind.
The Symposium was sponsored by the Health Department under National Rural Health Mission.
SDM Billawar, CMO Kathua, BMO Billawar, Dy CEO Billawar and tehsil and district level officers were also present .
As many as thirteen students from Higher Secondary schools of Durung, Billawar, Parnala, Pallan, Gujjroo Nagrota, Koug, Dungada and Ramkot participated in the competition.
All the students threw light on the grave consequences of female feotcide and gender discrimination and advocated the need for saving the Girl Child for survival of the mankind. They also called for paying respect to the females as they in no way lag behind in any field of life.
The speakers highlighted the importance of women in Socio- economic and cultural development while supporting their point from the religious scriptures.
Dr Manohar Lal Sharma also gave away prizes to the winners . Aarti Sharma of Higher Sec School Durnag bagged first position with cash prize of Rs 2500, while  Kiran Bala of HSS Durang and Kanchan Sharma of HSS Billawar were declared second with cash  prize of Rs 2000 and third  with cash prize of Rs1500 respectively.
Three consolation prizes of 500 each was also given to Shivani Devi of HSS Ramkot, Parul of HSS Parnala and Rihana Shahin of HSS Durang.
