JAMMU, June 19: Former Minister and senior Congress leader Dr Manohar Lal Sharma today heavily criticised Central Government’s Agnipath scheme and termed it as cruel joke with the youth of the country and demanded immediate roll back of the scheme.
Manohar said that recruitment in the armed forces should be viewed with patriotism, love for the motherland and not employment and warned GOI not to do politics on this.
He said the youth are protesting against this scheme of the Government and adding that lathicharge, arrests of the protesting youth and registering cases against them is totally unfair.
Manohar said that GOI can’t choose welfare at the cost of the Army’s discipline and regimentation and said that the step was taken without adequate forethought and consultation with the stakeholders.
Four years of service will disrupt their education, and they will also face difficulties in getting another job or more education as they will be older to others with similar qualification, he said, adding they will face financial hardship as well.
