SRINAGAR, Aug 22: A high level officers meeting was held here today under the chairmanship of Minister of State for Planning and Finance Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma, convened to review the progress under centrally sponsored Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Rashtriya Madhyatmik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) in the education sector.
Principal Secretary to Chief Minister B.B Vyas, Secretary Education, Farooq Ahmad Factoo, Director Planning and Development, Jamwal, Director School Education Kashmir, Mohammad Shafi Rather, Director School Education Jammu, Gulzar Qureshi, Director RMSA, Hilal Ahmad Parray and Joint Director Planning Education Department were present in the meeting.
The meeting discussed threadbare the issues related to construction of school buildings, uniform for students, creation of teacher posts and strengthening of DIETs and SIEs of the State.
The schools run under SSA and RMSA of Kathua district and their issues were particularly discussed in the meeting.
Addressing the meeting Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma impressed upon the officers to speed up the construction of school buildings so that the students living in far-flung areas are provided better educational infrastructure facilities of class rooms, libraries and science laboratories. He said that adult education centres at village level play a pivotal role in enhancing the capabilities of unemployed youth and also improve the economic conditions in these areas.
Dr. Sharma also directed for opening up of primary and middle schools in uncovered areas of Kathua district under the schemes launched by Central and State Governments from time to time.
Principle Secretary to Chief Minister B. B. Vyas impressed upon revival of inspection system in the schools so that the teacher student relationship and the quality of education with special emphasis on punctuality and discipline is assured at all levels of education sector.
Mr. Vyas also advocated for imparting training to teachers with regard to their professional work through DIETs and SIEs. He directed the senior officers present in the meeting to submit performance reports regularly with regard to the functioning of educational institutions under SSA and RMSA.
