Manohar lays foundation of lift irrigation scheme

KATHUA Aug 26: Minister of State for Cooperatives, Finance and Planning, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma today laid foundation stone of Rs 10.03 crore Didwara lift irrigation scheme at Billawar. The scheme will benefit the farmers of Bhaddu and Didwara covering a total land of 600 hectares which is scheduled to be completed within next 3 years.
Dr Sharma said the topography of Billawar tehsil demands more efforts to generate water resources for irrigation requirements of the local farmers and the 11 check dam, khul and lift irrigation projects coming up under Accelerated Irrigation  Benefit programme will improve the agricultural production in the area.
Later, the minister convened a public meeting at Middle School, Didwara in which public representatives of different panchayats apprised the Minister of their problems and demands seeking an early redressal to the same.
The demands projected by the panchs and sarpanchs included up gradation of Middle School, Didwara, installation of handpumps, Anganwari centres, dispensary and construction of circular road for ward no 6 and Masjid road besides improvement in water and power supply.
Dr Sharma called upon the people to extend cooperation to the administration for  smooth and successful execution of various schemes to achieve optimum results.
Responding to the demands of the locals, Dr Sharma assured that all their issues will be resolved in a phased manner. He directed the PWD officers to prepare a project proposals for construction of Masjid and circular roads.
Dr Manohar Lal Sharma directed the ADC Kathua  S.V. Meena to speed up the process of compensation to families affected due to recent heavy rains.  He also instructed him to ensure early disposal of land acquisition cases in lieu of PMGSY roads.
SDM Billawar Vikas Gupta, SDPO Basohli Rafiq Manhas, Tehsildar Billawar, CMO Kathua, XEns of PWD, PDD, Irrigation, Flood Control, sarpanchs and panchs and a large number of people were present on the occasion.
