Manohar lays foundation stone of multipurpose hall

KATHUA, Aug 19: Minister of State for Fisheries, Cooperative and Elections Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma today laid foundation stone of multipurpose hall at Government Degree College Billawar.
The multipurpose hall to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 5.04 corer by JKPCC would have more than 800 seating capacity and one of the largest halls in the district Kathua.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sharma said that education has been tagged as the priority sector by the Government. He said that in the last two and half years Government has established 22 new colleges in the state thereby expanding the reach of higher education to the rural and far-flung areas of the State. He said that education sector would get further boost as the Government has planned to open high schools at panchayat level. He disclosed that many new subjects like biotechnology, B, tech and tourism will be introduced in the GDC Billawar soon.
Minister directed General Manager JKPCC to complete the multipurpose hall in the stipulated time period so that students can avail the facility.
Earlier, Principal Government Degree college Billawar Dr Netar Singh gave a brief about the achievements of the college. He also projected demand for starting biotechnology subject and necessary infrastructure like lab, additional class rooms besides expansion of second floor in view of increasing enrolment of the students.
Later, Minister held a public darbar at Dewal where public representatives put forth their demands/ problems before the minister which included augmentation of drinking water, development of power infrastructure, road connectivity. Minister assured that that their problems will be addressed on priority basis.
