Manohar lays foundation stones of Panchayat Ghars

KATHUA, Mar 20: Highlighting the need to equip Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) with necessary infrastructure to work effectively for meeting the aspirations of the people, the Minister of State for Fisheries, Cooperatives, Finance and Planning, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma, today reiterated the Government’s resolve to empower the PRIs to strengthen democracy at grass root level.
Dr Shrama was addressing a public gathering after laying foundation stone of Panchayat Ghars at Chilak-West, Mangloor-East, Mangloor-West and Dinga Amb-A Panchayat halqa here at Kathua.
The upcoming Panchayat Ghars would be completed at an estimated cost of Rs 80 lakh under MGNREGA and funds provided under 13 Finance Commission.
Dr Sharma further said the decision making power devolved to rural people through Panchayati Raj Institutions was now brining positive results. He said that people irrespective of caste and religion should come forward to work in coordination with elected representatives of Panchayats to achieve social and economic development of their respective areas.
Later, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma also listened to the grievance projected by the people and passed on spot directions to the concerned officers to address the issues pertaining to them on priority.
At Badholi (Chilak west) he assured that up gradation of Middle School, Chilak and construction of tubewell for the area was under consideration, and the same would be sanctioned during upcoming financial year. He added that Badholi- Chapad , Badholi- Nouni and Badholi- Kharal roads will also be taken up shortly. During the public interaction at Jambal (Mangloor-East) the Minister assured that the construction of link road upper Dhod, hand pump for the area, construction of boundary wall of the Middle School Jambal would be taken up in next fiscal year.
The minister also appealed the youth to take benefit of schemes like UDAAN, HIMAYAT and Sher-e-Kashmir employment and welfare programme to become self reliant.
Among others, Assistant Commissioner (Dev) Kathua, BDO Hiranagar, and other tehsil and district level officers, Panchs and Sarpanchs and a large number of people were also present on the occasion.
